Thirty seconds in to Julian Xtra’s Everybody Eatin’ video, we knew we were going to hit replay once it was done. Tongue-in-cheek visuals match the quality of production and the slick melodic flow is both familiar and refreshing. What defines Julian Xtra is his energy and positivity, something rarely matched in hip-hop. He exudes a sense of fun and playful passion for his craft through every facet, and is clearly at the top of his game. We caught up with him to get an insight to the creative process:
Hey Julian! Thanks for taking the time to speak with us. To start with, how would describe your own sound?
My music is progressive hip-hop/trap with rapid-fire melodic lyrics, and at times elements of synth-pop.
Can you narrow it down to a song, album or artist that inspired you to start making music?
Probably Bone Thugs n Harmony. They just had a very technical style that didn’t subtract from them making good melodic songs.
You walk the line between a handful of hip hop styles, but what influences your music that we won’t expect?
I was inspired by Muse, Depeche Mode, System of a Down, and Deadmau5.
Can you tell us something about yourself that we won’t know already?
I come up with the hooks of a lot of songs while driving, sleeping, or doing yoga.
What’s next and on the horizon for Julian Xtra?
I am on the VEZT app (on iOS and Androids) selling 33% of the songwriting shares for my song Everybody Eatin’ with fans and investors! Most of my upcoming singles will be available on the platform. Welcome to the future!
