Hot on the heels of popular electro artists such as SBTRKT and Disclosure are Clean Bandit, using their band’s unique lineup and fantastic musicianship to push the genre in new directions.
While string sections have long been a common feature of dance music, it’s not so common for them to be performed and recorded live by real musicians; most producers would opt for synthesised or sampled instruments. Clean Bandit break the mould with their live string players and make a point of this by pushing them into the spotlight, dropping the oh, so overdone synthesiser solo in favour of someone rocking out on a violin.
Though they have only released two singles and one EP to date, their second single (‘Mozart’s House’) managed to debut at number 17 in the UK Singles Chart. Not only are their releases performing well, but as a band they are bursting onto the live scene with appearances a number of this summer’s festivals including Glastonbury, Latitude, Creamfields and Reading/Leeds, and a headline show at London’s XOYO in July.
