Fans were queuing up outside a very rainy and cold Manchester Academy in anticipation of the evening’s entertainment. The venue was almost at capacity as The Crookes took the stage first and what an enthralling band they were, with frontman George Waite thanking the crowd for coming early to catch the band. Their new single I Wanna Waste My Time On You went down a treat with the audience, getting them moving. Their set, albeit short and sweet and left the crowd wanting more.

The interval although short felt glacial as anticipation for the headliner brewed. A light flute and triangle sounded through the speakers then quickly shifted into Offenbach’s Can Can, which had had the entire crowd clapping and yelling along to the classical introduction for The Fratellis. Frontman John Lawler walked on stage smiling to himself in his white fedora and smart black shirt. The first couple of notes played out and everyone knew that is was Baby Don’t You Lie To Me! three generations of fans went ballistic for it, jumping around and yelling the lyrics back to the Scottish trio. You could almost feel the nostalgia as people waited for the guys to throw down to Chelsea Dagger and Whistle For The Choir.
