LA based five piece Hey Violet have been making some waves in the scene recently and they keep on throwing out new track after new track. Their debut album From The Outside is already shaping up to be pretty sweet indeed, but right now with only a few EP’s in their catalogue they’re back in the UK for another three date run hitting Glasgow, London and Manchester so as you’d expect some have travelled quite the distance to be inside the Sound Control on a Wednesday night.
This being only their second time to hit the UK however they’re not short of experience, before Hey Violet three of the members were originally part of Cherri Bomb which went on from 2008 until it fell apart in 2013 with the singer leaving and thus evolved into Hey Violet a few years after. So since middle school they know exactly how to work a crowd and with tracks that area bursting array of electronic pop rock there’s nothing to not like.
Whilst ‘Brand New Moves’ is a sweet and likeable track filled with dance worthy guitar melodies, ‘Guys My Age’ is mature and slightly mellower, Ed Sheeran’s quite overplayed ‘Shape Of You got a slightly more rocky adaptation, but to a crowd averagely on the younger side it was a nice touch to elongate the set. But it’s ‘Fuckboi’ that’s the real shining light of the set, being extremely relatable to the majority of the audience who with phones in hand make the view from the back of the just a group of screens from one side to the next.
After getting a glimpse of some tracks from their upcoming debut album, ‘O.D.D’ and ‘Hoodie’ especially, after two years of EP’s and singles, the album can’t come quick enough.
