If there wasn’t enough to do already at Bestival especially with the recent announcement of the return of the feast collective, Bestival have now announced Carnivale—a brand new area at the site for 2015. The area, set to be in the Wishing Field is a collaborative effort between its producer Kirsty Henderson, Shademakers (one of Europe’s leading carnival groups) and the team at Bestival.
Rob da Bank, one of Bestival’s founders has described the idea behind it to hark back to the roots and core of the festival. He believes that Bestival attendees are those that enjoy a good party and dressing up. Therefore Bestival has slowly been building up their carnival scene as and when they can. However, this year the Arts council has come on board providing the festival with a grant allowing them to put on the biggest carnival at the festival to date. Festivals goers can now anticipate spectacular oddball performances and dancers all weekend on the area’s main stage—a gigantic pirate ship. Alongside this, there will be wondrous parades during the day and night and carnival arts workshops. Present in the area as well will be a History of Carnival exhibition, where you are able to relax and indulge in the history of carnivals through the medium of film. With illuminated dancers, glitter, an energetic atmosphere with a plethora of activities, Carnivale is shaping up to be a firm staple on any bestival attendees agenda for the weekend. So if this combined with the spectacular line up appeals to you, there are still tickets available so get them quick before they are all gone!
