The feline master of this new bass-music/pop/R&B crossover, Cashmere Cat, continues to the set the bar with his latest release, the four-track marriage-themed offering, Wedding Bells.

Cashmere Cat saw a rise to notoriety with his debut Mirror Maru EP, which secured him a slot on the Grand Theft Auto V soundtrack, and his remixes of artists such as Lana Del Rey and 2 Chainz have seen regular plays live from such big names as Hudson Mohawke and Diplo.

With such a niche and specific vision with his music, he’s struggling with where to take his sound, but this isn’t uncommon among artists that attempt to evolve in the spotlight.

The opener to the EP, ‘With Me’, was released as a single in November of last year, and was our first foray in Cashmere Cat’s expansion to his sound. In terms of progression from the previous EP, there is masses in terms of complexity, production and overall grandeur, but little in terms of strides forward. This release lacks the wow factor heard on his first EP, perhaps due to the fact that we now know what to expect from a Cashmere Cat release.

However, this isn’t to say that Wedding Bells isn’t streets ahead and completely off the wall in comparison to a lot of similar music, just it feels like that Cashmere Cat made such a statement with Mirror Maru that it would be difficult to do so again without reinventing himself.

Wedding Bells is available now on iTunes via LuckyMe Records.
